American Idol singer gives birth to baby girl
American Idol finalist Paris Bennett welcomed a daughter yesterday, weighing 5lbs 15oz, according to People magazine.

The 20-year-old singer gave birth to her first child, named Egypt Bennett, yesterday afternoon after five hours of labour.

"I'm so excited to finally see my little angel - and man, does she have lungs on her. I guess she's gearing up to be the next 'American Idol'," gushed the new mum.

A representative for the star added: "Paris's mother Jamecia Bennett and her family is filled with excitement and welcomes their bundle of joy."

Paris' mother is a former soprano vocalist with US Grammy Award-winning vocal and instrumental ensemble Sounds of Blackness.

In 2006, the mother, daughter duo performed at the Divas Simply Singing AIDS benefit concert.

The songstress first announced the news of her pregnancy in June this year and is set to release her Christmas album entitled A Royal Christmas later this month.
