Baby bump massage 'improves immune system'
30 Jun 2008Massaging a pregnancy bump can not only help the bond between mother and their unborn child, but also improve their baby's
health, reports the Mirror.
According to the newspaper, the baby's immune system is boosted by the amount of touching they get in the womb.
"The more you massage your bump, the more antibodies he'll develop to protect him against future infections," the publication stated. "Massaging your unborn baby tips him into a group of babies who will be resistant to developing a range of conditions including allergies, asthma [and] arthritis."
A warm room with low-lighting and minimal distractions is the ideal setting for a bump massage, it recommended, adding that women should take care to only use oils which are suitable for use during pregnancy.
Stop massaging when the baby kicks, it added, and restart when the baby is calm again.
Research by Harvard Medical School found that pregnant women who are stressed about relationships or money are more likely to have babies with asthma or similar allergies.
