Cheapest flights 'not always best option for family holidays'
15 Apr 2008Parents planning a family holiday with small children are advised not to "just look at the headline price" when booking flights, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).
Sean Tipton, press officer at ABTA, explained that budget or low-cost airlines do not offer discounts for children and often use airports that were not in the city centre.
He commented: "Any traditional airline or charter airline will do discounted fares for children, no frills carriers do not."
The latest survey from Rough Guides found that Virgin was the most child-friendly airline with 36% of the vote, followed by British Airways with 32%.
February's Orbitz traveller update report revealed that family holidays accounted for the most popular category of group travel with 50 per cent of the vote.
Before travelling on holiday with children, parents are also urged to ensure they check any
health issues or vaccinations with the GP.
