US pop singer Christina Aguilera has given birth to a son weighing 6lbs and 2oz, according to latest reports.

The 27-year-old diva and husband of two years Jordan Bratman welcomed their first baby, "a beautiful, healthy baby boy", on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the happy couple said: "Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman are proud to announce the birth of their son Max Liron Bratman."

In a message to her fans, Christina wrote on her official website: "Today is a very joyful and special day for Jordan and I as we welcome our first son into this world."

Christina delivered the baby Max at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California just a day after Nicole Richie gave birth to a baby girl in the same hospital.

Mutual friend of both celebrity mums, Paris Hilton, announced Christina's pregnancy in September. She confirmed: "Congratulations to the most beautiful pregnant woman in the world."

In a speech at the recent Conservative party conference it was proposed that 'all mothers in (NHS) maternity care will have access to a single room'. How do you feel about this idea? (Please select one answer only)
It’s a great idea and would get my vote!
It's a good idea, but not a priority
Sharing a postnatal ward is safer if anything were to happen to you or your baby
Money should be spent on more midwives instead
It's unrealistic and would be a waste of money
