Desperate Housewife 'regrets delaying motherhood'

28 Apr 2008

Desperate Housewife
Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross has reportedly revealed that she wishes she had become a mother sooner.

Although claiming to be the happiest she's ever been, the 46-year-old actress said that she wanted to have children in her 30s, but just wasn't ready to settle down and start a family.

"I don't think people want to wait. I wish I'd met my husband earlier," she said. "It's sad having kids so late, because you want to be alive for as long as possible for them."

Marcia gave birth to twin daughters Eden and Savannah, with husband stock broker Tom Mahoney, just before her 45th birthday. The girls were conceived following IVF treatment.

Commenting on her experience of being a mum, she explained: "Motherhood is like being madly in love. Take your greatest love affair and magnify it as many times as you can imagine and it's like that. Motherhood really cracks your heart right open."

Studies have shown that a rising number of women who undergo IVF give birth to twins.

Weekly poll

In a speech at the recent Conservative party conference it was proposed that 'all mothers in (NHS) maternity care will have access to a single room'. How do you feel about this idea? (Please select one answer only)
It’s a great idea and would get my vote!
It's a good idea, but not a priority
Sharing a postnatal ward is safer if anything were to happen to you or your baby
Money should be spent on more midwives instead
It's unrealistic and would be a waste of money
