Dispel pregnancy travel fears with protection advice
12 Aug 2008When it comes to prenatal travel, many mums-to-be remain anxious about making arrangements to go abroad, according to travel insurance specialist Essential Travel.
A recent survey revealed that four out of five pregnant women plan to take 'babymoons' overseas with their partners prior to the birth, but are concerned about their
health and safety while travelling.
Stuart Bensusan, sales director at Essential Travel, said: "We get roughly 60 calls a day from women in their first trimester, worried that insurers classify pregnancy as a 'pre-existing medical condition' and they'll need special travel insurance. They won't.
"With a few exceptions, 99 per cent of pregnant women are perfectly fine and will be covered by a standard travel insurance policy. Expectant mums can relax and make the most of a much-needed break before the big day."
He advised that pregnancy is covered by standard insurance policies as long as you are back in the UK within eight weeks of the due delivery date.
Most airlines allow expectant mums to fly up to and including the 36th week of pregnancy, provided it has been free of complications.
