Families hit with excessive travel charges

Families hit with excessive travel charges
Families travelling with children are being forced to pay excess charges when flying as airlines fail to offer baggage allowance for infants, it has been highlighted.

Ruth Evans from the Co-operative Travel Group said that airlines are unfairly charging for excess baggage and in response has launched a campaign calling them to stop.

"A holiday is a very nice thing for a family to look forward to a holiday but it is a shame when they get to the airport and get stung by these baggage charges. They've got particularly worse since all the security problems," she commented.

According to the UK's largest independent travel retailer found that on average an infant requires between 14kg and 15kg of essential items on holiday.

The best carriers recommended for families with young children are Virgin and British Airways, which offer an infant allowance for items such as buggies and pushchairs in addition to generous normal baggage allowances of up to 23kg.
