Franz drummer abandons gig to witness son
Franz Ferdinand drummer Paul Thomson found himself in a difficult situation last week, when his wife went into labour as he was about to start a gig.

Instead of playing the Equinox Pilton Party bash in Glastonbury, Thomson left for Scotland to witness the birth.

The lead singer of the band, Alex Karpanos, announced the news at the gig, and the band replaced the drummer with a former member of Fall.

He told the audience: "I don't know if you've heard about Paul our drummer. His wife went into labour, then 20 minutes ago we heard she'd given birth to a baby boy."

Despite the problems for the band, Kapranos claimed to like the stripped back acoustic set, which was played for the residents of Glastonbury, saying that the band doesn't normally get the opportunity "to play songs this way."

Thomson's wife Esther, the lead singer of Cash Machine, gave birth to baby Georgie on September 19th.
