Kids 'last 3hrs before BSS sets in'

31 Jul 2008

Kids
The average child can last just over three hours in a car before Backseat Brawl Syndrome (BSS) kicks in.

Research by car hire firm easyCar.com has revealed that one in ten kids can only last around 60 minutes before they begin squabbling and moaning while travelling.

To combat BSS, the company claims the classic game of I-Spy is still a winner among restless little ones, with 30% of adults citing it as successful, while the number plate game and red car, blue car, yellow car were also listed.

Admiral Insurance recently found that keeping kids entertained is the biggest challenge when travelling with them, with 73% of parents finding it tough.

Bill Jones of easyCar.com remarked that family driving holidays should not be hard work and thinking of new ways to interest and entertain children can become fun.

"Simple things like pointing out scenery, looking for landmarks or playing classic car games can make the trip enjoyable - and will keep BSS at bay," he added.

Despite the problem of BSS, 1.3 million Brits have planned a family driving holiday this year, with 64% claiming it is the easiest way to travel with kids.
