Lego - nation's favourite

29 Jul 2008

Lego - nation
Lego has been named as the nation's favourite toy, it has been revealed.

A survey by catalogue store Argos, which reached its 35th birthday this year, found that 56 per cent of poll respondents cited the coloured bricks as the best overall childhood toy.

Speaking to the Telegraph, a Lego spokesman commented: "The poll proves that Lego is a high-quality toy that keeps being interesting to children and adults because of its creative possibilities. It's so simple but has so much potential."

In January this year, Google helped Lego celebrate its 50th anniversary by designing the iconic Google sign in multi-coloured bricks.

Lego continues to be a timeless favourite for young children and once again features in Argos's top 10 toys list for 2008.

Other desired playthings include the Rubik's Cube, waterproof digital cameras and a light and sound gadget watch.

Ian Chaplin, toys trading manager for Argos, explained that all things high tech are bound to be popular this year, while classic items such as Lego will always remain high up the list as parents try to strike a balance between traditional and modern gifts.
