Mel C to be a mum

Spice Girl Mel C has announced the happy news that she is pregnant with her first baby.

The 34-year-old performer confirmed that she is expecting a child with her partner of six years Thomas Starr, after weeks of speculation.

"Some Happy News! Well, I can now announce that Tom and I are expecting a baby and we are very happy," she wrote on her official website.

The new arrival will be the eighth baby to join the Spice family and Mel C's band mates are reportedly thrilled about the pregnancy.

A source told the Daily Mirror: "The girls are so pleased for her and have said they're only a phone call away to pass on any parenting tips.

"Melanie loved being around their kids on the band's recent tour and is delighted she's now one of the gang."

The last baby to join the band was Emma Bunton's son Beau. Posh is currently in the lead with three sons, followed by Mel B with two daughters and Geri who has one daughter Bluebell.
