Mother of 11 gives birth to 17lb baby
A Russian woman has played her part in boosting the country's declining population by giving birth to her 12th child, weighing a massive 17.5lbs, reports claim.

Already mother to eight daughters and three sons, 43-year-old Tatyana Barabanova welcomed baby girl Nadia into the world following a caesarean section delivery in a Siberian hospital on 17 September.

Weighing more than double the average weight of a healthy newborn, baby Nadia adds a whole new dimension to the family tradition of big babies, with her brothers and sisters all weighing more than 11lbs at birth.

The super mum explained to a local reporter: "I ate everything, we don't have the money for special foods so I just ate potatoes, noodles and tomatoes."

Recent research found that a low birth weight in newborns can be linked to a mother's vitamin D intake while pregnant. Women who drank vitamin D fortified milk and vitamin D food supplements were more likely to have bigger babies.
