NCT launches Mums the Word

The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) has launched a free DVD called Mums the Word to help new mothers adjust to becoming a parent.

Following the true-life story of one woman and her experience through giving birth and motherhood, the DVD aims to give fellow mums advice and information on how to cope and what support is available to them.

Featuring This Morning's Alison Hammond, the DVD covers topics from breastfeeding to relationships with partners to rights and benefits, the organisation claims.

"The NCT is here to support all new mums and we want to give them the confidence and encouragement to enjoy the first few months with their new baby," said Belinda Phipps, chief executive of the trust.

She added that women can be secure in the knowledge that the information provided in the DVD is from a trustworthy and reliable source.

Recently, the NCT launched an online network for new fathers, which allows new dads to swap stories, information and tips over the internet.
