Parenting a breeze 'with family support'

17 Apr 2008

Parenting a breeze
New mums have plenty of people they can turn to for support in looking after their new baby, it has been suggested.

Although for many it can be a daunting time, mothers can seek help from a number of avenues including family, friends and support groups.

Parentline Plus, a national charity that works with parents, says that becoming a parent can be "life changing" but there are plenty of people to turn to for advice.

"Many new mums attend ant-natal classes and are told by their midwives about the physical side of giving birth, but the emotional upheaval of giving birth is often underestimated", said Sue Ormesher, acting head of press and PR for Parentline Plus, and Suzie Hayman, a trustee of the organisation.

They added: "It is important for first-time mothers to have some support, whether from family members or friends…if you don't have family close by, check out what's available locally such as family centres and mother and baby groups."
