Scottish baby name favourites released
A list of Scotland's favourite baby names of 2008 has been revealed.

Just over 28,000 girls names and 27,000 girls names were registered in the country this year, with the most popular being Jack and Sophie.

However, it also saw some more traditional names fall by the wayside, including the likes of Kieran, Ross, Megan and Jennifer.

Duncan Macniven, the registrar general for Scotland who released the lists, said: "As always, the list of Scotland's favourite baby names is very interesting.

"Almost 7,000 different names were chosen this year and around 1,800 biys and 2,600 girls were given unique names,"

Some of the unusual names given to boys including the likes of A, Diesel, Maxx-Cody and Zayaan-Vega, with some girls getting names such as Goodness, Princess Vanessa, Gypsy and Ocean-Melodie.

Sophie has come top of the list for the last four years, while Jack made a return to the number one position after being ousted by Lewis last year.
