Technology helping parents share joy of new arrivals
28 Feb 2008Grandparents are the first to hear the announcement of a new arrival, with one fifth of parents setting up a web profile or blog for their newborn, a recent survey said.
Research conducted by UK Parents Lounge discovered that 85% of parents to newborn babies tell the grandparents before anyone else, with 64% admitting to sending out a photo to friends and family within four hours of the birth.
According to Orange, parents can switch their mobiles to 'flight mode' while in the hospital, which will prevent the phone from transmitting potentially harmful signals.
The study also found that one in seven parents have shared images of their unborn baby's ultrasound scan through their mobile or via the internet.
Steve Masters, editor of UK Parents Lounge, said: "Online communities of parents routinely share pictures of scans and newborns with fellow community members, and it's interesting to note that adoption of technology for announcing births is not a male preserve.
"While dads may often be the one with the phone doing the texting and phoning just after delivery, it's often the mums who are sharing the scan pictures during pregnancy and the photos of the newborn babies on forums and social networking sites after the event."
