'Three quarters' of SMBs offer flexible working
02 May 2008A new study has shown that small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are adapting their policies to cater to the needs of parents, facilitating an easier work-life balance for families.
Data from Citrix Online reveals that 74 per cent of SMBs claim to have introduced flexible working options, with 47 per cent also declaring themselves favourable to government plans for extending flexible working to parents of older children.
A more negative reception was however noted for extended maternity leave, with 58 per cent of small firms predicting a negative economic impact on their trade, compared with only 48 per cent in relation to paternity leave.
Bernardo de Albergaria, vice president and general manager for global marketing and eCommerce at Citrix Online, said: "It is very encouraging to note a consensus between UK businesses and parents around flexible working.
"UK SMBs are actively exploring ways to enhance employee satisfaction and retention by enabling web commuting. This way, companies can minimise disruption to their business while allowing parents the flexibility to achieve a rewarding home life as well as momentum in their career."
Worker satisfaction, staff retention and an improved work-life balance for working parents were identified as the key incentives for offering more flexible working schedules.
