Too many baths 'not good for baby's skin'

12 Oct 2007

Too many baths
Skincare experts warn that giving babies a bath every day could be bad for their delicate skin, advising that infants should only be bathed two or three times per week.

Baby skincare brand Metanium is set to launch a new campaign to 'Banish Bathtime Blues' in a bid to reduce stress levels around bathtime.

Jane Shire, advisor for myhealthvisitor.com, says: "Bathing can be relaxing for babies and enjoyable for the entire family if it isn't rushed, but babies can go for days without a bath as long as you top and tail regularly.

"Indeed, if the baby is born very small, or is unwell, then it is recommended that they are not bathed, just topped and tailed."

Ms Shire advises that new mums take a break from regular bathtime rituals by avoiding bathing their babies when they are sick, tired and restless.

Bathtime with baby can be a rewarding and enjoyable bonding experience for new mums, however, parents are advised to make it an opportunity for quality time rather than a necessary daily chore.
