US-inspired baby showers 'increasingly popular with Brits'

A popular American trend has made its way over to the UK, with more and more expectant parents throwing baby showers to celebrate the pending arrival of a new addition, according to a new report.

US-style baby showers have become in vogue among pregnant British women, with the latest research from cahoot revealing that 2.3 million women attended a women-only baby shower in the past five years.

The Transatlantic Trend Spotting study found that baby clothes accounted for the top gift at a baby shower with 63% of guests buying baby clothing for the expectant mother.

Other presents include pampering products (25%), toys (22%), keepsakes such as trinkets and jewellery (15%) and baby toiletries (9%).

Matthew Timms, head of cahoot, commented: "Britons are always looking for more ideas for things to do with their money. They've certainly fallen hook, line and sinker for US-style baby showers, and are now spending a small fortune on presents for mum and baby. It's a great way to celebrate a new life and the start of a new chapter."

Daddy showers are said to be the latest trend to hit the baby shopping market as the concept of holding a party for new dads rises in popularity nationwide.
