Working during pregnancy can be 'a positive experience'

Working during pregnancy can be
Working can sometimes be helpful during pregnancy, it has been reported.

Emergency medicine physician Dr Tamara Kuittinen told the New York Daily News that often women prefer having something to do rather than sitting about and worrying about their baby.

However, the expert added that working mothers-to-be need to remember they are bound to feel more tired, especially during the first trimester and advised eating balanced meals, taking regular short naps and prenatal vitamins.

Dr Kuittinen added that when pregnant workers tell their boss about their condition is a personal choice.

"If you're having problems with morning sickness and feel like your performance is affected, you should tell your boss early … to make the appropriate adjustments, whether it is you come in a little bit later or work from home," she said.

As long as women anticipate what adjustments they will have to make and plan for certain changes, working during pregnancy can be a positive experience, she concluded.

Unfortunately, research by the Equal Opportunities Commission recently revealed that 5% of women feel under pressure to leave their jobs after announcing they are pregnant.

It’s a great idea and would get my vote!
It's a good idea, but not a priority
Sharing a postnatal ward is safer if anything were to happen to you or your baby
Money should be spent on more midwives instead
It's unrealistic and would be a waste of money
