When should I introduce fish to my baby?
It’s hard to find jars of puree containing fish; however, oily fish like salmon, trout, fresh tuna and sardines are particularly important for the development of your baby’s brain, vision and nervous system. A baby’s brain triples in size in the first year and so its important to include oily fish in your baby’s diet from 6 months. Ideally your baby should give your baby oily fish twice a week.

When can I give my baby eggs?
Eggs are very nutritious and fine from 6 months provided there is no allergy in the family and the white and yolk are cooked until solid. Egg allergies are less common than most people think and if an egg does cause a reaction, the effect will be almost immediate and striking warning you to keep your little one away from eggs for a while. The timing of the introduction later than 6 months won’t make a difference and delaying the exposure wont prevent the allergy. Well cooked scrambled eggs make a good breakfast for your baby.

When can I give dried fruit to my baby?
You can give dried fruit to your baby from 6 months, although don’t give too much as it can have a laxative effect. Dried apricots are packed with nutrients including iron and a good combination is apple, pear and dried apricot. I prefer to use dried apricots without sulphur dioxide which is used to preserve the bright orange colour. This can trigger asthma and tummy problems in susceptible babies.
