Tod Holiday
Holidays
It’s a good idea to give some thought to child safety when planning a holiday.
  • If you’re renting a holiday home or villa, does it have a pool? You’ll need to be extra watchful if it does
  • if you’re thinking of booking into a hotel or holiday centre, check if it has a qualified child care team – it will give you and your partner more time to relax!
  • even if your holiday company is offering ‘free child’ accommodation, it doesn’t mean that it’s ‘childfriendly’ so check to see what’s on offer.
Some holiday companies don’t have child facilities once you’re on holiday.
Note: Glass safety regulations abroad aren’t as strict as the UK. So be extra careful if your child plays near doors, windows and glazed patios.

Planning a holiday?
Your child may need extra immunisations if you are travelling abroad – check with your practice nurse. If you are going to a part of the world where there is malaria, a serious infection caught from mosquito bites, then your child will need protection against that, too. Your doctor may be able to give anti-malarial drugs.
Toddlers can burn easily in the sun. Keep your child out of the sun when it’s strong, and protect her skin with hats, long-sleeved, light-coloured clothing, and sunscreen, reapplied regularly.

In the sunshine?
Remember
  • SLIP on a top
  • SLAP on a hat
  • SLOP on a good sunscreen

Christmas is a special time of year, and we'll spend the same as always
We'll probably spend as we usually do and worry about it in the new year
We're not worried about spending, as we have saved in advance / have been spreading the cost
We've got to be more careful this year, but the kid(s) won’t lose out
We'll be cutting back this year
