Your baby
Your baby is now enjoying their first solid foods and might even start trying to grab food as you eat! Their hand-to-eye co-ordination is getting better and they can probably bang things together now. At 7 months babies can also recognise emotions and distinguish between happy, surprised or sad faces.

You
Babies at this age can start to show signs of separation anxiety and get upset when you leave the room. It can be tiring, but it won’t be like this forever, and they will soon start to realise that you always come back!
What to think about
Did you know you don't have to give up breastfeeding when you return to work? We show you how it's done.
Caring for your baby doesn't have to mean cutting yourself off from the world. Get involved with other new parents - there are lots of ways you can make new friends that won't ever get bored of baby talk! If you're taking your baby out and about though, beware of hazards - your home might be baby-proofed, but your friends' may not. Check out our dad's guide to hidden dangers around the house.
