Your baby
Your little one might get their first teeth around now. If your baby’s teeth are coming through at different angles – don’t panic. Once all of their teeth have come through the spaces are likely to disappear.
They are likely to be pulling themselves upright as they prepare to take their first steps, and will enjoy playing peek-a-boo, rewarding you with lots of lovely laughs.
As your baby becomes more active, it might mean that there are some knocks and bumps. Keep an eye on them as they explore and be wary of any potential hazards, but also try to enjoy it!
Babies will begin to realise that objects have purposes – you might notice your little one putting a phone to its ear. Encourage these actions by turning it into a game and over the next few months they’ll begin to use some objects like drinking from cups or combing their hair.
Your baby’s eyesight is getting better and they’ll begin to recognise people and belongings. If their favourite toys are at a distance, you might notice they crawl over to get it.

You
As your baby becomes more mobile it might seem like you need eyes in the back of your head. It can also be quite tiring – investing in a travel cot or playpen is a good idea as you can pop your little one in it for a short time while you get yourself together. If you’re feeling shattered, grab a nap while your baby is asleep to recharge your batteries.
What to think about
Make sure you and your partner get some quality time. It’s often worth planning ahead so you can organise some childcare, which allows the pair of you to spend some time together.
Babies don’t need shoes just yet – even if they are totting around. Make sure the floor they’re on is clean but, being barefoot helps strengthen their leg muscles.
Start getting your little involved in mealtimes. With the use of a highchair your baby will start getting used to the routine. If they want to feed themselves let them – it’s messy but they’ll get the hang of it.
