Out and about

It won’t be long before you’re ready to get out and about again. Babies need company and so do their mums!

When it comes to baby transport, there are lots of options to choose from.

Which pram or buggy?

Full-sized pram

Look lovely, and your baby rides high up. Prams can be used from birth as the baby can lie flat. However, they are expensive, and large, so you need somewhere to keep your pram.

Buggies

Fold easily and are lightweight. If you want to use a buggy from birth, choose one with a lie-flat setting for your newborn.

Travel systems

These combine a car seat, buggy/pushchair and carrycot section which all fit onto one frame. These travel systems are expensive, but you are buying three items in one.

All-terrain strollers

These three-wheeled buggies are suitable for use on pavements and on rough ground. Check that this type of buggy folds small enough to fit into your car or is light enough for you to lift it onto a bus.

Slings

Slings are lightweight, leave your hands free and keep your baby entertained!

Pram and buggy checklist

Whatever type of pram or buggy you buy, check that:

  • It is easy to manoeuvre.
  • You can fold it easily, preferably with one hand.
  • It will fit through your door and in your car if you have one.
  • It is light enough to lift.

Hi, fell pregnant with my second child at 40 - eldest is 21. I don't drive so got a silvercross kensington pram. Love it, and baby loves it too. Very pricey though - could only get cause my dad bought it. if you can afford it, it really is the biz.
hi there , when i had my daughter now 5 i had a britax pram very much like the silver cross freeway ,i loved it but it was a pig to fold and was very large (filled my citroen xsara boot!!) so was very happy when we downsized to a silver cross pop , loved it , light and easy!! , i sold it on ebay as did not think i would have any more kids , so when i fell with our son we went for the silver cross 3d , as it was small and liked the prammette idea but... it does not fold with pram bit in!!! , its fairly heavy and pram bit very small so had to put him forward facing at 10 weeks much earlier than we wanted!! , i have found it to be very poorly made ours has been back to silver cross x2 as chassis twists and then impossible to fold/unfold!! , so bought on ebay an urban detour 3 wheeler and we all love it so light to push , easy to fold , and great on and off the pavement , only wish we bought this 1st!!!
hi, i had a Silvercross surf and i am really pleased with it. I havent seen many people with this travel system as its fairly new.. i have a volvo C30 which has a fairly small boot but it still goes in just about. I have the linen colour as we didnt know if we were having a boy or a girl and i feel it wont get dirty so quick. Now our little girl has arrived she loves it and i feel it looks the most comfortable out of all of the pushchairs/travel systems. Hope this helps.
hi iam amy bradley i am looking for a pram for me baby when he is born on the june 3rd 20011
Hi, i love going out and about but my 22wks baby hate sitting in the buggie no matter what i do, just always wanting to be carried and dat is tiring 4 me.
Hi mandamate76 I know you posted a while back now but I have the maxi cosi mura 3 which is an all terrain travel system. I love it, it's a joy to push & the different components fit in & out with minimal fuss. It does take a fair amount of boot space up in my Vw golf but I would not hesitate to recommend it. Also have just started using our baby bjorn carrier/sling which is a godsend in the shops, especially at Christmas time! Mothercare currently have them on offer for £44 from £55.
Hi, I have got 4 children so have had many pushchairs. Is this your first baby? With my eldest soon we had a mamas&papas pram he's almost 11 now) it was huge and we had to take the wheels off to get it in the car! Then my 2nd son was born shortly after so we then entered the world of double pushchairs, we had a side by side one and a forward facing one. Then with my daughter(she's nearly 2) we bought a silver cross 3d and car seat to fit on it but it wasn't easy to put up or down so we bought a bebe confort streety - it's been my favourite pushchair so far. It's so easy to use, the car seat just clips onto the frame, and it has a reversible seat, and so simple to put up&down and folds together like a buggy,it all comes in one package we paid £220. I cant use ours much anymore as we since had a baby boy so now have a phil&teds which is great, but for one child the streety gets my vote( I can't use it with our baby boy either as it's pink!)

Any advice on what travel systems are good/bad. Thanks x
travel systems is the real moving in and out right from birth, that suit all babys transport.
