Mystery surrounds the identity of the mother of Cristiano Ronaldo's baby after it was revealed that he had become a father for the first time.

The Portuguese press speculated that the former Manchester United winger had arranged for a surrogate after he said he had "exclusive guardianship" of the child.

The Real Madrid star insisted that the identify of the mother would be kept confidential.

Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias said the baby boy was conceived through surrogacy last summer in San Diego, United States.

The child was born on June 17 - two days after Portugal played the Ivory Coast in the World Cup and four days before he helped his side defeat North Korea 7-0.

Dannii Minogue has given birth to a baby boy, her spokesman confirmed today.

The 38-year-old X-Factor judge and her partner, Kris Smith, had a son named Ethan Edward Smith on Monday.

The couple were said to be "thrilled" with the new arrival.

Minogue's spokesman Simon Jones said: "Mother and baby are doing well and Dad is very proud. They request their privacy at this special time to adjust as new parents."

The baby boy is Minogue's first child and, according to reports, the baby was born in Melbourne.

Kylie Minogue has sent congratulations to her "little sister" - saying her new nephew is "gorgeous".

Dannii gave birth to Ethan Edward Smith in Melbourne, while Kylie was launching her new album in Ibiza.

Kylie wrote on Twitter: "Congratulations to my little Sister, @danniiminogue and @krissmith13 on their beautiful baby boy, Ethan. He is gorgeous!!!"

Artist turned film-maker Sam Taylor-Wood has had a baby girl with her 20-year-old fiance Aaron Johnson.

The 43-year-old gave birth to Wylda Rae in London and she and Kick-Ass star Johnson confirmed the news in a "happy announcement".

Love blossomed for the couple on the set of Taylor-Wood's movie Nowhere Boy, when Johnson played John Lennon in his early years.

The Queen is said to be "delighted" after learning she is to become a great-grandmother for the first time.

Peter Phillips - 11th in line to the throne - and his wife Autumn are expecting their first child in December.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "Peter and Autumn Phillips are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in December.

"The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, as well as Autumn's family, have been informed and are delighted with the news."

Mr Phillips, the Queen's eldest grandson, married his Canadian-born wife at a glittering ceremony at Windsor Castle in May 2008.
