Albinism Fellowship

Albinism Fellowship provides information and support to families affected by albinism. Albinism is a genetic condition characterised by a lack or total loss of the pigment melanin in the body. Because of this people with albinism have to be careful to protect their skin from the harmful effects of the sun. The condition involves a significant visual impairment that cannot be corrected. Some rare types of albinism involve medical problems such as bleeding disorders and pulmonary fibrosis. Albinism affects about 1:20,000 people in the UK. The social issues arising from the visual distinctiveness of albinism can have devastating affects on confidence and self-esteem especially children from black and minority ethnic groups. Many children with albinism will need additional support in an education environment.

Baby Cafe Leed Doula

BABY SPACE - 'To break down the social isolation of new mothers while providing postnatal and breast feeding support' We want to bring together pregnant women and new mothers. But one where they can also receive postnatal support and breast feeding support if they need it. By doing this we hope to improve the rates of continuing breast feeding and to combat postnatal depression among mothers. We have been successfully running a weekly session in a real café in Leeds throughout the summer. We have a breastfeeding counsellor and a birth/postnatal doula on hand for advice and support. We have provided breastfeeding support to many mothers over the last three months and they have been grateful for the social support as well.

Break Road Safety

This charity not only helps those bereaved by road traffic accidents but helps promote road safety in many brilliant ways for the children of today, and for the children of our greater tomorrows. Society needs re educating on road safety. It is a priority for all emergency services, and as parents and as a community we need to take this on board and act today.10 child fatalities a day is way too high!

Clowns (Creating Opportunities in Western Somerset)

CLOWNS (created in April 1995) operates a service for parents/carers and children in rural isolation and areas of need with the West Somerset District Council area by providing:

• Physical Family Fun sessions - structured, themed activities for pre-school children in village halls, children's centres, nurseries, pre-schools and parent/carer toddler groups.
• A mobile and static Toy Library offering a large selection of toys.
• A Scrapstore salvaging clean and safe materials to meet the creative needs of groups and families.
• A professional Outreach family support service for pre-school children and their parents/carers living in isolated rural areas. It also provides Health Visitor clinics, information, individual consultations between parents/carers and workers and a small play area for the children. Other agency services are able to access the van according to need.
• A double decker playbus visiting rural villages for 2 hourly sessions.

Group B Strep Support

Group B Strep Support (GBSS) is a UK charity, founded in 1996. Our three main aims are to: Offer information and support to families affected by group B Streptococcus; Inform health professionals and individuals how most group B Strep infections in newborn babies can be prevented; and Generate continued support for research into preventing group B Strep infections in newborn babies. At Group B Strep Support, we believe that every woman should be informed about group B Strep and offered the opportunity to have a sensitive test to detect GBS carriage late in pregnancy. Unfortunately, sensitive tests are not yet widely available within the NHS, although they are available privately

Heatbeat

Heartbeat is a Parent Support Group for families of children who have heart disease. Heart disease is now the most common problem in Northern Ireland. In excess of 200 babies are born here each year with a heart disorder. One third of these children are sufficiently ill to require investigation and/or surgery. Heartbeat raises funds to provide equipment, parent accommodation etc for the use of families when their children are experiencing difficulties. Heartbeat has a very close affinity with Clark Clinic in the Royal Victoria Children's Hospital and recently we have provided a new security system for the ward, plus other equipment totalling over £50,000. With the financial situation in the Royal Hospitals Trust at such a level, Clark Clinic relies heavily on Heartbeat to provide much needed equipment crucial for the care of our children, and Heartbeat continues to do what it can to help the unit.

KITE

Kids Intervention, Training & Extracurricular Centre - Provides out of school programs for children with developmental disabilities and their families, aimed at enhancing the child's academic and social success. The KITE Centre aims to make a difference to children's lives - by helping them build their confindence and self-esteem & enabling them to be socially accepted and successful individuals.

MACS

MACS is a Registered Charity in the UK and is run by volunteer parents with children who have the eye conditions icrophthalmia (small formed eyes), anophthalmia (no eyes) and coloboma (sight problems), and also young people who are directly affected. Mutual support, from people who know what you are experiencing, either as a parent or young person, is something that we passionately believe in and that is why the charity is run entirely by volunteers who understand what is needed.

Musical Keys

Musical Keys, an established registered charity based in Norwich and operating across Norfolk. It was founded in 1990 by the parents of children with disabilities who realised that their children responded to music irrespective of their level of disability. Children with a full range of special needs and disabilities are able to gain new skills and further their development through the use of music in a stimulating, fun environment. Parents/carers attend with their child and any siblings, they fully participate in the activities using a wide range of materials including percussion instruments, visual aids eg puppets and textured fabrics. We use many actions and props often within a theme, such as Autumn, the countryside, seaside, travel, ourselves and food etc. There are opportunities for counting, shape or colour matching and language development. Our songs help to develop speech and a sense of rhyme and rhythms that are an integral part of our language.

NCT Cheshunt Broxbourne & District

Our branch of the NCT is a small branch but its volunteers work hard and are passionate about making early parenthood the wonderful thing it should be. We arrange coffees with New Mums (and sometimes Dads!) so they can meet other parents at the same stage as them. This provides fantastic peer support and these groups usually stay together for a long time. We have worked hard to get up and running a breastfeeding support group, as there was not alot of support in our area for mothers wanting to breastfeed, and without this support many give up, feeling guilty or struggle on alone.

Rephael House

A small local charity in North London that offers support and counselling to women and families who have lost a baby or child through miscarriage, still birth or the death of a child of any age. They also offer post termination counselling and crisis pregnancy support. They also offer counselling for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence and more general counselling for children and young people Rephael House is an independent charity , that provides counselling, emotional support, information and advice, thus meeting people at their point of need. Rephael House provides a confidential environment and aims to create supportive client relationships, enabling clients to work towards living in more satisfying and resourceful ways

Shooting Star House Children's Hospice

Enhancing life when every moment counts’. The Shooting Star Children's Hospice provides care, support and advice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families, free of charge, 365 days a year across the western half of London and north Surrey. The care services are based around the needs of the whole family, so as well as caring for the children and young people, there are activities for siblings and support groups for parents and grandparents. This makes a real difference to families who find themselves in unimaginable circumstances - helping them live life to the full by providing opportunities for fun and laughter, as well as helping them through the tougher times. Families benefit from Shooting Star's care services in the community, in their own homes and at Shooting Star House. These services include Short Breaks, Outreach Care, Day Care, Family Support and Therapies and End of Life Care.

The Get up & Go Community Nursery

There is a team of 5 people from across the UK called the Southern Strollers who will be participating in the 24 peaks challenge in aid of the British Red Cross and half of the money raised at this event will go towards their target of £2750.The other half of the money raised will go towards buying The children of Get Up and Go Community Nursery for some new maths equipment for use outdoors.

The Place2be

The Place2Be was established in 1994 in response to increasing concern about the extent and depth of emotional and behavioural difficulties displayed in classrooms and playgrounds. Today, we are an innovative growing charity, currently working with 155 schools across the UK, supporting a child population of & over 51,000 – often in areas of great deprivation. By 2010, we aim to be working with 190 schools supporting 80,000 children with problems such as bereavement, family breakdown, domestic violence, trauma and bullying. By 2017 we hope to reach 150,000 children across 25 localities. Our mission is to enable therapeutic and emotional support to be provided to children in schools based on a practical model backed up by research.

You and Me Play Group

You & me is a playschool which is a registered charity and is trying to provide an outdoor play area for the children. Funding for structural works to provide the children with a safe play area as they currently have to use the car park.

Bluebell

This charity helps mothers who are suffering from Postnatal Depression, as well as their families. The charity is based in Scotland, but funds a national helpline. This charity is not funded by the NHS and yet women are referred to it by the NHS!

Parish of Cleenish

Parish of Cleenish runs Parent & Toddler group who meets weekly in the village Hall. The group is staffed by volunteers and have both structured and non structured activities which encourage physical, social and emotional development of children in a safe and encouraging environment. Funding received would be used for music classes as well as the weekly expenses such as heating and electricity
