Don’t compromise on cleansing. Providing a clean base for your lotions and potions to get to work is a must. Every girl has a favourite cleanser; some like the warm water routine of a wash-off cleanser while others prefer a no-nonsense wipe-off version. See our expert tips on cleansing here.
Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. This classic cleanser has the creaminess of a wipe-off cleanser with a muslin cloth to wash it off the skin. The result is a squeaky clean face without any tightness.
“Exfoliate” should be part of your daily vocabulary. Simply put, the only way to remove tired, dead skin and reveal younger-looking skin underneath is by exfoliation. What’s more, it provides a smoother surface for foundation to glide evenly over your face! Avoid facial scrubs with large exfoliating beads that will scratch the skin…smaller is kinder.
Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It. This scrub is not only kind on the purse strings, but on your skin too. It has a gorgeous scent and isn’t abrasive. Apply on damp skin, gently buff and rinse.
Save the day with a serum
Serums are a must-have for everyone’s skincare arsenal as they contain the most potent, and therefore the most effective, form of ingredients. Using a serum underneath your moisturiser can make a big improvement on your complexion. We’ve seen it with our own eyes!
The Body Shop Nutriganics Drops Of Youth Serum, £22. If you’re looking for a serum that does a bit of everything, then you can’t get much better than this. It contains Aloe to calm, condition and hydrate the skin as well as natural acids to brighten the complexion.
Moisturise! Moisturise! Moisturise!
Your moisturiser is your friend. You see each other first thing in the morning and last thing at night. We can’t even stress the importance of a luminising primer that hydrates and protects the skin’s natural barrier. As a mum you’ll be out and about at the playground, the school gate and the market stalls – so look for one with an SPF to provide your skin from the elements.
Nivea Visage Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream SPF15. Even if you’ve so far managed to escape the woe of wrinkles, it’s hard to find a better everyday moisturiser than this one. It contains Q10 – helpful for those with wrinkles or looking to avoid them – and it has a combined UVA and UVB SPF.
Go ahead - mask the issue
Ooh – you found a spare 20 minutes in between nap time and lunchtime – quick! Run upstairs and grab that mask. Masks contain magical ingredients such as natural clays and need only be applied to the skin once or twice a week at the most. There may be things you regret today, but you won’t regret making time for a facemask.
Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel. Don’t be fooled by the fact that this is classed as a peel, as it’s really a mask. Apply onto clean, dry skin and leave for 10 minutes. It contains fruit acids that will slowly dissolve any dead skin so that, when removed, your skin will sing with joy.
