Barbie doll now represents realistic body image
Creators have released a selection of new dolls that show different body shapes and skin tones
Barbie is joining the 21st Century as creators, Mattel, have launched a whole new range of Barbie dolls that represent different body types, skin tones and hair.
The idea behind the launch is to offer all girls a doll that promotes a realistic self-image whatever shape or size or skin tone you are, there is a doll that can ‘speak to you’.
Barbie first hit our toy shops an incredible five decades ago with her tiny waist, long slim legs and golden locks. In recent years, Barbie has been accused of not representing a realistic body image for young girls who play with them.
The new range is set to dispel this and offers a variety of dolls in all shapes, sizes, races, and hair styles.
