Prime Minister set to offer parenting classes
Cameron has stated that he thinks it’s important all parents learn how to discipline children through classes
PM to teach us parenting
- Parenting classes planned for all
So last month we heard from new NCT boss, Nick Wilkie that birthing classes need to be accessible for all parents-to-be and this month we have Prime Minister David Cameron saying we all need parenting lessons to learn how to discipline our children.
One Tory backbencher described Cameron’s idea as ‘the nanny state gone mad’ but our PM is expected to urge parents to take classes to learn how to discipline their children as well as teach them good behaviour and improve their communication.
Many have already lashed out at the PM suggesting they wouldn’t take parenting advice from the father who left his eight-year-old daughter in a country pub not so long ago.
Undeterred, Cameron is due to announce a voucher scheme suggesting all parents would benefit from the parenting classes.
In his speech today, (Monday), David Cameron is expected to say: “Of course children don’t come with a manual, but is it right that all of us get so little guidance? We’ve made progress. We’ve dramatically expanded the number of health visitors, and that is crucial. But that just deals with one part of parenting – the first few weeks and months. What about later on, when it comes to play, communication, behaviour and discipline? We all need more help with this – the most important job we’ll ever have. So I believe we now need to think about how to make it normal – even aspirational – to attend parenting classes.”
