Should children have smartphones?

If you have children going back to school this week you might have already had a conversation about getting a mobile phone. Even if they are in primary school.

New research by Internet Matters a website that helps parents keep their children safe online, shows that over half of 8 to 11 year-olds own their own smartphone, with a quarter of children taking it with them to school.

Most parents wait until their children are around 10 years-old before equipping them with a smartphone but the research also showed that around 11% of under 8’s already have a phone.

Of course, as parents, it is ultimately our decision when to give our children a smartphone and we all have different reasons for doing so but do you think that there should be a minimum age for owning one?
