Jamie Oliver's healthy school dinners 'fail to attract pupils'

Celebrity chef and healthy school dinners advocate Jamie Oliver seems to have failed in his plight to encourage the UK's children to eat more nutritious food. According to new figures released by the School Food Trust, too many children are still turning up their noses at the healthy school dinner option - implemented by Oliver and the government - and are instead opting for unhealthy packed lunches and junk food bought in shops. This comes after the government said back in 2006 that overhauling the way children eat is to be a priority, when it outlined its mission to increase the take-up of school dinners by ten per cent. However that goal has been unsuccessful, as the number of primary school children and secondary school pupils opting for the dinners has risen by only 0.1 and 0.5 per cent respectively. According to Texas publication The Vindicator, one of the most effective ways for parents to ensure their children eat healthily is to sneak superfoods into tasty meals, for example, putting blueberries and eggs into a smoothie.
