Ovulation
Ovulation
Fertility experts agree that the best way to get pregnant is to have sex about every two or three days throughout your menstrual cycle. But if that’s not possible for you and your partner, or you are taking a while to conceive, you may want to focus on your fertile days a little more.
You’re most likely to get pregnant if you have sex within a day or two of ovulating. Ovulation (when an egg is released from your ovary) usually happens about 10 to 16 days before the first day of your next period. So, if you have a long cycle, you will probably ovulate later than someone who has a short cycle.
In this section you’ll discover how to spot the signs of ovulation and also how you can pinpoint the moment you ovulate using a special kit available from chemists. Don’t get too hung up on your fertile period, though – making babies is meant to be fun!
How to measure your cycle
The first day of your period is easy to recognize – even if it is very light, so this is the day doctors calls Day One of your cycle.
