Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish have revealed hopes of having a brother or sister for their adopted toddler son Zachary.

The couple have indicated they want a new addition to their brood, but said that nothing has been decided just yet.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, 49-year-old Furnish said he thought their son, born through a surrogate mother in 2010, "would be better" with a sibling.

"It's something we talk about all the time. But in terms of when, where and how, nothing's decided yet," he added.

The film director said he and the singer plan to talk about it in the summer and said it would be ideal to approach the same egg donor so a "biological connection" would exist between Zachary and his sibling. But he admitted it might not be possible as the mother "has a life of her own".

He said: "It's a big commitment to make, nine months of their life that doesn't just affect them but their children, their husband, their partner".

The celebrity couple cemented their relationship in a civil partnership seven years ago.
