Plans to overhaul child support

Plans to overhaul child support

Friday 09 December 2011

The Government plans to make it tougher for parents to renege on paying child support.

Work and pensions minister Maria Miller said the plan is for money to be be deducted directly from their pay packets.

The measure is just one of a number that has been announced as ministers seek to overhaul the child support system that has come in for some heavy criticism.

Already in the pipeline are plans to axe the Child Support Agency and replace it with the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission.

At the same time, Ms Miller has said the Government plans to raise the level of financial support paid by parents who are not looking after their children.

She said: "The Government want to encourage and support parents to make their own family-based arrangements, but are committed to providing a statutory service for those separated parents who are unable to co-operate."

It is hoped the proposals, if implemented, will also bring about significant savings for the taxpayer.

CSA SUCKS!!!

Its all welll and good helping the parents that have the children but what about the person who is paying maintanace. The 'carer' who is working full time, with a partner on a full wage then claiming all the benefits has it all then topped up by the abcent parent who now has no money to do support and look after themselves as 'CSA' is more of a priorety than the roof over someones head! Is there no wonder why so many people prefer to be on benefits than work? Living is more expensive so that way so all parties (bar the affluent carer) are suffering and no one is looking at the numbers to make it fair all round. I think someone needs to look at the system again and reward parents want to be involved in their childrens lives to those who are not interested.
