TPMT Test

A TPMT test is used to check whether a person is at risk of developing severe side effects after taking a type of medication called thiopurine.

In the UK, patients about to begin treatment with thiopurine have their TMPT status checked before treatment starts.

The TPMT test will show whether there is a risk of developing severe side effects from treatment, such as a decrease in blood cells or a lowered immune response.
