Mums searching for the perfect hairstyle to see them right through the festive period could find the bun an ideal thing to go for.
According to Cos Sakkas, international artistic director at Toni & Guy: "A true classic, the bun never fails to impress for a chic and elegant Christmas party look."
For those unsure what type of bun to go for, Mr Sakkas advised a "low 1940s chignons with a side parting", or a "sleek and sculpted ballerina bun".
Mothers could find that such a hairstyle allows them to put up their hair at the start of a party and then forget about it - a luxury which often cannot be afforded to those with long hair styles that need touching up which makes the bun an ideal way for busy mums to wear their hair.
Celebrities seen wearing their hair in a bun recently include mum-of-three Victoria Beckham and new mum of twins Sarah Jessica Parker.
