Families looking for a classy way to decorate their home could be interested in hearing design predictions for this year.
According to leading interior designer Carolyn Trevor, a black and white scheme with splashes of bright colours is a great trend for this year.
She noted that this could give homes a "theatrical" look.
"Team dark and dramatic colours together in a scheme for a theatrical look and experiment with a paint finish as well as colour to make a real statement," said Ms Trevor.
Following the impact of the global economic downturn, many families may be choosing to stay put in their homes and redecorate rather than tackle the property market and move, particularly if they are trying for a baby and looking to save cash.
Times writer Katrina Burroughs agreed with Ms Trevor and recently wrote that vampire and goth trends are set to influence interior design in 2010.
