More people are seeing their doctor over potential mental health problems since a number of high-profile figures spoke out about such issues, it has been noted.
According to mental health charity Mind, there has also been a rise in the number of people "self-diagnosing" themselves with conditions such as bipolar disorder after Stephen Fry spoke out about his own experiences as a sufferer of the illness.
Figures show that bipolar disorder is very common among UK adults and according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists, as many as 11 in every 100 people could be suffering from the disorder at any given time.
Director of external relations at Mind Sophie Corlett said: "When well-known people, such as celebrities, speak out about their personal experiences it helps to raise awareness of how common mental health problems are and what those experiences are really like."
Many mums may find they feel down following the birth of a baby. Prolonged feelings of sadness could be a sign of postnatal depression and new mums should certainly visit their doctor if they feel like this.
