Those who drink in moderation are less likely to put weight on than those who cut alcohol out of their diet completely, a survey has found.
According to a study from the Archives of Internal Medicine, which looked at more than 19,000 women, 38 per cent of those who stopped drinking altogether gained the most weight over a period of 13 years.
Getting back into shape after the birth of a baby may be important to a lot of new mums but slow and steady is certainly the way to go with any post-baby weight loss plan.
A GP can help mums make sure they are still getting all their essential nutrients and vitamins while at the same time losing the extra pounds they gained during pregnancy.
Commenting on the findings, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World Dr Jacquie Lavin warned that people should not see drinking as a way to lose weight.
"While it's certainly possible to slim down and still enjoy the odd glass of wine, it would be wrong for people to think that it is going to provide them with a solution to their weight problems," she said.
