Real Mum of the Year 2010 Winner
Congratulations to Jane Allen from Canvey Island, Essex, who has been voted the winner of Bounty Real Mum of the Year 2010! Nominated by her sister-in-law Perri, Jane fought off stiff competition from the other nine worthy finalists winning the hearts of our members with her true life story:
"Not only is she an amazing mum but she has been through a lot these past 12 months. She is Mum to Finley aged 11 and Indee Rose, 3 and a half. Her daughter Indee was diagnosed suddenly with a brain tumour in January 2009, she fought hard with her partner Russell to fight the disease and do everything they could to make Indee's life a happy one, she spent every hour of every day by her bed side creating stories and fun memories while Indee underwent treatment at UCLH hospital in London. Indee sadly passed away in June 2009, only six months after the shock diagnosis. In July 2009 Jane decided to set up a charity in Indee's memory 'The Indee Rose Trust' which creates treasure boxes for children who are undergoing treatment for brain or spinal tumours. With Jane's positive thinking and hard work we have managed to raise over £30,000 in our first year and recently put together a celebrity football tournament which raised around £20,000. Jane has had bad times and happy times, but she always manages to keep a smile on her face and help the other families who are going through the same thing. Jane really is a Mum in a million."
As well as being awarded the title of Bounty Real Mum of the Year 2010, Jane and her family have won an overnight stay at one of the fantastically themed hotels at Alton Towers, along with a two day pass to the theme park and water park.
“I was totally shocked to see I had been nominated but to be picked as mum of the year is amazing and I’m so pleased. For the last year and a half life has been tough as we lost our beautiful daughter Indee to an inoperable brain tumour in 2009. Indee is our inspiration for our charity The Indee Rose Trust, a charity that supports children with brain and spinal tumours, and winning this title has helped me realise that us mums especially with children who may have a serious illness are truly amazing. I have had the privilege of meeting so many of these wonderful mums and everyday their lives is one big battle fighting against their child’s tumour. Also I would like to thank everyone who voted for me as you have made my son smile as it has been a very tough year for him also. He's so excited about going to Alton Towers!”
Sarah Hall
Sarah found out her son had HLHS at her 20 week scan and since then has been amazing, she was so strong for her son who had three lots of open heart surgery, Joshy sadly passed away at 11 weeks and Sarah said she wanted to make him proud every day and she has, by raising money for the hospital Joshy was at. Sarah really deserves this for being such a strong and selfless lady, she really is Mum of the Year.
Sarah Westbrook
In September 2007, Sarah and her husband got married in a beautiful ceremony in Rhodes, in front of their friends and family. After getting back from their perfect honeymoon they were excited to discover that Sarah was expecting their first child. Sadly the pregnancy failed, left heartbroken they decided to try again soon after. Again this pregnancy failed and both Sarah and her husband were left wondering if they were ever going to have their longed after first child. They decided to wait a while to try again and were excited but apprehensive when they received a positive test in August 2009. On the 4th of February at 31 weeks, Sarah's waters broke and after a little while in labour, their adorable little boy, Mason Westbrook was born weighing 3lbs 6oz. It was a worrying time for Sarah and her husband and all her friends and family. Mason proved to be a little fighter and moved onwards and upwards, amazing everybody around him. Mason spent 6 weeks in neonatal care moving from intensive care, though to transitional care. Mason is now 7 months old and is loved and adored by his amazing Mummy and doting Daddy. In addition to this Sarah has coped, caring alone for Mason whilst her husband worked away in Afghanistan. With everything she has been through and for everything that she is, I nominate my best friend Sarah Westbrook as Real Mum of Year 2010, I couldn't think of a more deserving winner!
Sharon Sutton
I am nominating this person as she means a lot to me and always has done throughout my life. She has always been there and never let me down. She has been through some very tough times like having a Tumour, Cervical Cancer in which both were treated and breaking her spine after been run down by a car which nearly left her paralyzed or even killed - then after suffering Domestic Violence she still come out on top! She raised 3 children with very little money and her ex-husband left her in thousands of pounds worth of debt as well having to pay for food, bills, clothes, shoes etc. she even didn’t eat just to feed the children. Sharon has never had support from anyone apart from her children that kept her going through out everything and they still do. This lady plays a special part in my life and she is someone I look up to a lot, she really means the world to me. This woman deserves Mum of The Year after everything she has been through and yet she is still here today fighting strong. There is so much more I could put about her she truly is the most special but fantastic Mum out there, nothing could ever replace her.
Lesley-Anne Mullen
I am nominating my sister, I was only 6 when my mummy died and Lesley-anne was only 23, she looked after me from then on as my dad wasn’t around and had left. I am now nearly 15 and she has looked after me for so many years, I appreciate how much she has done for me. Lesley also had been trying for a child for about 4 yrs and had to have IVF, they now have a baby girl who is 13 months old. She is such a good mother and mother figure and deserves a treat.
Leigh Geddes
Leigh gave up a career she loved in teaching when Alex was born because "she loved him more!" and dedicates herself to her family. Obviously with only one wage, money can be tight and she often goes without for us. She confesses to not being the most natural 'housewife' but does an amazing job and is the centre of our world! She uses her teaching skills to educate and enthuse our children about their world and has also inspired everyone by setting up her own baby sign class 'Communi Kids' which runs, for our local community, once a week. Her passion, love and care to everybody and everything in her life makes her our Mum of this and every year!
Bethan Williams
Bethan is a good friend of mine, she is an absolute living proof of an all round mum, while she cares for her elderly mum and dad (her mum is wheelchair bound after suffering a stroke), she deals with the physical and emotional aspect of the situation as well as caring for her loving son who suffers from asthma. She went through IVF because she was so desperate to become a mum and believes he will be her only child because of ongoing bodily difficulties and never thought it would be possible to conceve. Her son is her absolute world, she is a wonder and the most selfless and caring person I've met, people wonder how she copes with everything in her life and still stands strong, she barely finds time for herself. I really admire her strength and feel that she should be Real Mum of the Year 2010.
