Abdominal pain (child)
All children have ‘tummy ache’ at some time and the cause is not always clear. In very young babies, repeated colic attacks are a common cause of pain, especially if your baby seems well otherwise.

Causes of abdominal pain can include:

  • Wind in the intestines associated with constipation
  • A temporary digestive upset due to something your child has eaten
  • Diarrhoea
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Food allergy
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Hernia
  • Bowel obstruction
  • Appendicitis

    How you can help

  • Help your child to rest in the position he finds most comfortable
  • A well-wrapped hot water bottle on his tummy may help
  • Don’t give your child any medicine, food or drink until a doctor has seen him
  • Don’t give a laxative unless your doctor advises it

Christmas is a special time of year, and we'll spend the same as always
We'll probably spend as we usually do and worry about it in the new year
We're not worried about spending, as we have saved in advance / have been spreading the cost
We've got to be more careful this year, but the kid(s) won’t lose out
We'll be cutting back this year
