Medical treatment
Your doctor may prescribe a drug to ease wheezing. Antibiotics are not usually given, as infection is often is due to a virus, which antibiotics cannot treat. Infant paracetamol in the correct dose for the child’s age may help to reduce his temperature.
What you can do to help
keep your child warm but don’t overheat him
give him plenty to drink
to help bring up phlegm, lay your child over your knees with his head down, and pat his back vigorously
Often, a child who has frequent attacks of bronchitis is actually suffering from asthma. Ask your doctor if you are worried about this.
