The type of motion that your baby passes is more important than the frequency of motions. Some breastfed babies have a motion every four or five days, while others have a dirty nappy at every feeding time. You will know that your baby is constipated if stools are hard (like small marbles) or cause discomfort.
Bottle-fed babies are more likely to get constipated. If necessary, give extra cool boiled water or diluted fresh fruit juice. A baby over four months can have extra vegetables or sieved stewed prunes.
! Don’t give a laxative without your doctor’s approval.
