Seven top tips to evolving your style.

For the first time ever, something else or rather someone else is taking priority over your fashion obsession. But as every fashion stylist will tell you, there’s no need to lose your style, just evolve it. Here’s how to choose functional fashion for your new mum-plus-one lifestyle.

Don't ditch your maternity clothes

We know you want to burn those trousers with the expandable waist – but wait! You’re not going to achieve perfect abs overnight and no amount of jumping up and down will get you into your skinny jeans right now. Hang onto your maternity basics for now and add in a few special “sparkly” purchases to dress up.

Layer up

Maybe you're not comfortable breastfeeding in public we're not here to judge but layering up a couple of vest tops will mean you can have easy access without flashing too much skin!  Consider a cardi that can be wrapped around you and baby if the need to feed arises.

Pick a print

Ideally a print with baby food colours. Because you can pretty much guarantee that your freshly laundered top won’t be staying clean for long!  A print will fool your friends into thinking your shirt was supposed to have a green splodge on the collar.

Ignore the size on the label

In this instance, size does NOT matter. Don’t beat yourself up about not fitting into your pre-pregnancy clothes. There’s no rush to lose weight and wearing the correct size is definitely more flattering than squeezing into the jeans you wore before you were pregnant. You can always cut the label out if it bothers you!

Think beyond the black

Ok so black is flattering, but too much can leave your closet and your complexion looking dull. Navy, chocolate brown and burgundy are just as flattering but much more forgiving against a tired face. Adding bright accessories can also be the perfect pick-me-up!

Go for easy care fabrics

If it requires hand washing, dry cleaning or ironing leave it in the wardrobe! A cotton jersey is comfortable and crease free so stock up on some basics+ a wrap dress, leggings and long sleeved tops that you can layer up under a cardi. Head to H&M and Primark for a good selection at great value for money.

7 - Go easy on the credit card

You’re going through a transitional weight period so until you reach your “normal” weight keep shopping trips inexpensive by heading to Matalan, Primark, Tesco and Asda to snap up some versatile pieces that won't break the bank.
