How are Ofsted Inspections Changing?
Last year, important changes were introduced to how Ofsted inspections are carried out and reported. At Busy Bees, we want to make sure you feel confident about what changed and what it means for your child.

A New 5-Point Grading Scale
The previous single-word judgements have been replaced with a five-point scale:
- Exceptional
- Strong standard
- Expected standard
- Needs attention
- Urgent improvement
The addition of “Exceptional” allows Ofsted to recognise sector-leading nurseries. Settings awarded this grade must demonstrate practice that goes above and beyond and will be invited to submit a case study for publication.
Report Cards Replace Overall Grades
Nurseries now receive an Ofsted report card rather than one overall judgement. Each report includes:
- A colour-coded grade for every inspection area
- A short summary explaining each judgement
- Insight into what it is like to be a child at the setting
This gives parents a clearer, more balanced view of strengths and areas for development.
Six Areas of Evaluation
Inspections now focus on six key areas, with safeguarding judged separately:
- Achievement
- Behaviour, attitudes and routines
- Children’s welfare and well-being
- Curriculum and teaching
- Inclusion
- Leadership and governance
How Busy Bees Is Responding
At Busy Bees, your child remains at the heart of everything we do. We have aligned all of our nurseries with the new Ofsted framework and have taken part in pilot inspections to ensure we are fully prepared.
Our Bee Curious curriculum supports school readiness while nurturing confidence, independence and a love of learning. By reflecting the updated inspection focus, we continue to provide the highest quality care and early education, giving your child the very best start in life.
