What to Expect and Pack for Your Childs First Day at Nursery

At Busy Bees, we know that your child’s first day at nursery is a big milestone. To help you feel prepared, here are five things you can expect on your child’s first day with us at Busy Bees.

what to pack

A window into their day

Through the Busy Bees App, you’ll receive updates on meals, naps and care routines, along with observations from your child’s key person. These capture those magical moments of learning, play and discovery. You’ll also receive regular photos, giving you a reassuring glimpse into their nursery adventures.

Activities tailored just for them

Before your child’s first day, their key person takes time to understand their routines, interests and favourite things. We use this to plan welcoming, familiar experiences. Love dinosaurs? We might set up a dinosaur sensory tray. Enjoy stories? The book corner will be ready and waiting.

All activities are thoughtfully planned through our Bee Curious curriculum to nurture confidence, independence and a love of learning.

Expect a tired but happy little one

First days are full of new faces, new toys and new experiences. Even with rest time, your child may be extra tired at home time. That’s completely normal. At pick-up, we’ll give you a full handover, and you can always revisit key details in the app later.

What to pack in your child’s nursery bag

To help your little one feel comfortable, confident, and ready for a fun day of learning and play, here’s what we recommend bringing:

  • Several changes of clothes – accidents happen, and extra clothes mean your child can keep exploring without worry.
  • Seasonal outdoor clothing – we love playing outside, rain or shine!
  • A water bottle – filled with water only, so your child can stay refreshed throughout the day.
  • A comforter – a favourite teddy, blanket, or muslin can give your child a reassuring cuddle when they need it.
  • Prepared bottles of breast or formula milk – in an insulated bag with an ice pack if needed.

Your child’s first day marks the start of a wonderful new chapter. We’ll be there to comfort, encourage and celebrate every step. Read more on our website.
