Finding a nursery that is right for your child can feel overwhelming. Busy Bees have decades of experience in nurturing, caring environments. Here are the essential tips to help you make the right choice.

Starting Your Nursery Search

Timing can make all the difference when it comes to securing the right nursery place. Beginning your search around 12-18 months before you want your child to start gives you the best chance of finding a setting that truly suits your child and family life.

Do your research

Every nursery is unique, so it’s worth taking the time to understand what matters most to you. Think about factors such as the environment, staff qualifications, child-to-adult ratios, and the curriculum on offer. Beyond the basics, consider what makes a nursery feel special-whether that’s a strong focus on outdoor play, a warm and welcoming team, or an approach that nurtures independence and curiosity.

Book visits and ask the right questions

Between 9 and 12 months, start arranging nursery visits. This is your opportunity to look beyond the surface and ask the questions that reveal how your child will be supported, encouraged, and cared for each day. Observing how staff interact with children and how happy and engaged the little ones are can tell you a lot.

Register early

Spaces can fill up quickly, and many nurseries have application deadlines well in advance. In some cases, securing a place can take six months to a year, so early registration helps ensure you don’t miss out.

Plan the transition

In the final 1–6 months before your child starts, settling-in sessions play an important role. At Busy Bees, these sessions are tailored to each child, helping them (and you) feel comfortable and confident about the big step ahead.
