Ingenious ways to keep connected with grandparents this lockdown

To help them feel a part of your family life, we’ve come up with a handy list of ideas to keep connected.

Connecting grandparents
The pandemic has made it harder than ever to keep in touch with grandparents. While hope is on the horizon with the vaccine rollout, it may still be some time until we can safely visit like before – and for some of us, distance meant spending time with grandparents was a challenge way before coronavirus entered our lives.

To help them feel a part of your family life, we’ve come up with a handy list of ideas to keep connected with Grandparents during this lockdown and beyond - and fill the family with Joy – quite literally!

Host a quiz night

They’re always guaranteed to be full of fun and you can make things extra special by choosing questions and themes that include your family history. Get the kids involved by asking them to research a round of questions for them to read out loud. Take advantage of technology to do the whole event virtually or if your Grandparents haven’t embraced the wonders of WiFi then a good old-fashioned phone call on loudspeaker will do!

Bedtime stories

There’s no better way to connect your kids and Grandparents than over a lovely bedtime story. Not only does it give you a break, but it gives the kids a pleasant change with a familiar voice. The perfect audio book.

Send letters and postcards

While technology is great, nothing touches the heart of our grandparents more than something as simple as a home-made card or a fun postcard arriving in the post. Kids can get creative with small arts and crafts that can be sent along too. The whole family will soon enjoy and look forward to receiving different surprises in the post.

Give Joy: The family photo album of the future

We’re super excited about the Joy Album and how it connects families together. It really is the family album of the future that goes way beyond an ordinary digital photo frame.

With Joy you can showcase your favourite family albums, complied of both photos and videos in delightful spreads which can be shared across other devices so grandparents can view them in their  homes too.

Plus, you can bring your old family memories to life in your young household by getting hold of grandparent’s old family photos and creating a digital album with the Joy App that can be shared with the entire family. You can also use the handy voice note feature to literally capture the story behind each photo – so it can be listened to by the whole family for years to come.

The Joy device doesn’t stop at reliving past memories either. You can keep your Joy Albums up to date with new family moments for years and years to come. Simply add your photos to the Joy app and they will instantly begin to display across your shared devices.
